Do you have Valentine’s Day plans this year? If you are planning a date with someone special, you’re likely to be doing everything you can to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible. If you are new to wearing Invisalign or this is your first time wearing it during this holiday for lovers, you may be worried about how to handle your treatment. Continue reading to learn about four things that you should know when dating within Invisalign.

#1: Confidence Boost

Invisalign trays are made from smooth, comfortable plastic. It’s nearly invisible, which makes it the perfect option for people looking to discreetly improve the look of their smile. The absence of bulky wires and brackets may also give you a confidence boost, therefore making you feel less self-conscious when laughing, speaking, and smiling during your Valentine’s Day date.

#2: Speech Alterations

When you first begin Invisalign treatment, you may have trouble speaking clearly. This is because clear aligners alter the space within the mouth. They may also cause the tongue to move around the teeth differently, which can affect the way you pronounce things.

Some patients temporarily develop a lisp, but it should go away once you adjust to the new arrangement of your teeth. Reading aloud, repeating difficult-to-pronounce words, and having conversations with others will help you adjust quicker.

#3: Eat Without Worry

Traditional braces come with a range of dietary restrictions since certain foods may damage or get caught in the brackets and wires. Fortunately, Invisalign allows you to eat nearly anything without issue. Just be sure to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth after each meal to prevent aligner staining as well as to keep food from getting caught behind your trays.

#4: Increased Risk of Bad Breath

Bad breath is a common complaint from Invisalign wearers. This can be a big problem when dating with Invisalign. Also called halitosis, this issue shouldn’t last long as long as you properly clean your aligners. Soak your trays in a solution made for aligners, dentures, or retainers once per day. You should also thoroughly brush them at least once per day to remove plaque, bacteria, and food particles.
